Na Vytoni closed for extensive restoration at the end of last Summer and reopened at the end of May in time for the hot weather. Previously I’d been critical of the graffiti that plagued this particular spot, this is no longer a problem as the area is surrounded by a 2 metre fence and has a caretaker onsite 24/7. This playground has gorgeous, huge shady trees that protect from the sun and the breeze from the river makes it very tolerable on a hot summers days.

The revamp has ensured a great set of equipment for all ages, especially those interested in climbing and testing their physical skills to the limits. Good quality climbing frames, balance beams, roller boards and spinning poles really test out the older kids, while the younger ones are catered to with a decent sandpit, playhouse, roundabout, swings, rockers and seesaws.

Heavy duty rubber matting has been laid out everywhere ensuring safe play and cleaner clothes - previously na Vytoni was a big sandy dustbowl. Plenty of new park benches are scattered about for parents to momentarily relax in and at this point I should mention that less than 20 metres away is Cafe Terapie where you can order take away coffee.

A new toilet is also onsite and it contains a change table too but you need to ask the caretaker for a key to open it. You will also find a water fountain on the side of the amenities block and in front there is a mist sprayer for kids to play in on hot days.

As it’s so close to the river you can also take the kids to visit the swans, seagulls and ducks or stroll alongside the foreshore viewing the boats, fishermen and sights of the city. It’s also fairly close to Vysehrad, you can hear the church bells singing on the hour (as long as a big locomotive isn’t roaring past).

Younger kids will enjoy the passing parade of trams and trains heading out over the river to Smichov and beyond. My husband and I who are chilli mad, can also recommend the Noodle Bar which is one block from here - this place serves the best Malaysian Prawn Laksa in the whole of Czech Republic!
