This is a brand new park and playground in Prague 3 that was opened today so Lucie and I rushed down to check it out. We’ve been so looking forward to this park opening, especially since Riegrovy Sady playground closed last month for complete reconstruction (the work will be completed sometime in November). Wow, I have to say that I was most impressed, the whole hillside that was once a wasteland on the edge of Zizkov has been landscaped into a stunning park with lovely views of the city.

The landscaping is superb and features a waterfall that runs down the entire length of the park, a beautiful pond that I was so tempted to dive into, several winding pathways to follow and many benches to sit on, either in the shade or full sun.

The playground is on the lower level and is fully fenced. Most unique is it’s grassy lawn, we took our shoes off and walked barefoot in the thick lush grass underfoot (I just wonder how long it will stay like that though). There is an easy to climb double slide that the kids were loving (it was a real novelty sliding in unison), a baby swing, two regular swings, two sand pits (but no sand toys are provided so bring your own), a balancing beam, playhouse and a couple of see-saws. There is also a large astro-turfed sports court and a long rubber running track so kids can have races or ride their bikes up and down it.

Even more encouraging for parents, there is a building right in front of the playground that is soon to house a cafe with indoor and outdoor seating! The building also houses sparkling new toilets.

Further up the hill you will also find a full range of outdoor exercise equipment for people of all ages and two outdoor ping pong tables. The exercise equipment has information on how to use each apparatus, so I now have a free outdoor gym that I can use while Lucie runs around the park or sleeps in her pram.

The park is manned 24 hours a day by security staff and there are caretakers on the premises during the day to make sure the area is kept clean and that people obey the guidelines (no smoking, no dogs, no swimming). The park is also connected to Riegrovy Sady, the connecting gate is on the upper right hand side of the park.

I love this new park so much that if the cafe at Rajska Zahrada does open you will probably find me here almost daily!
