Dino Park and Indoor Playground, Liberec
Three floors with life size replicas of moving and roaring Dino’s opened on February,1st 2012. It’s the nicest DIno park out of the 5 Dino Parks in Czech Republic. This one is the biggest and the only one indoors. Which means you can visit this one during a cold weather. Liberec is just over an hour drive from Prague on freeway. It has an Indoor Playground as well and you can combine it with a visit to the IQ Park.
Its actually quite amazing how we keep returning to Liberec to cover a new attraction for our KIP readers. We have already covered an IQ Park which is a great place to visit with Kids. It’s located inside the Indoor amusement park called Babylon which offers an Aquapark as well. Liberec ZOO is famous all over the Czech Republic for its white Tigers. Jested TV Tower that overlooks Liberec is a great attraction to visit as well and offers great skiing in winter. Reading this again… I am moving to LIBEREC ! This town has it all :-)
And now they have the biggest DINO park in the Czech Republic. Great move I thought. The Dino Park has opened right in the centre of Liberec at the Plaza Shopping Mall. This Mall has bees struggling for the past year to get enough tenants. It was half empty and the number of people visiting was very low. I know this because I was looking to rent a shop space and I was advised against it last year.
So they did some serious brainstorming and gave the DINO Park project a full 3 floors!! 2 Inside + a roof space. The roof part will be opened in warmer months. I am sure all the shop owners sleep better now. They actually might get a chance to survive in Plaza Mall now.
You can tell the park is extraordinary right when you enter. You have to walk through a falling down dmist curtain to get in. Kids love it. The exposition of Dinos is great. We soon discovered there is a adventure path going right through a field of Dino’s. Kids have to cross over a wonky bridge, crawl under the branches and necks of Dinos, go through a tunnel… easily you can spend a full hour just doing this.
Add to this a big climbing frame castle right next to the Indoor cafe. Here you can get a minimum 30 min of relaxation while the Kids disappear in the climbing castle. The Coffee isn’t anything special, but we appreciated it after 1.5hrs of walking. You will be able to get some food there and snacks. Otherwise - Dino Fast Food is right at the end of the exposition - after you leave the park. Don’t expect miracles - it is just fast food in Dino cups, on Dino plates with Dino names.
Right next to the cafe and tables there is a sand pit with a buried skeleton of a Dino. Kids can unleash their imagination and become a real scientist. I thought my boys would be bored with the detailed job of an Archaeologist in just a few minutes - i was wrong, they liked the gentle work with brushes, uncovering the bones. Shame they wont perform with the same enthusiasm when you ask them to clean up their room!!!
Our elder friend threw himself onto a joystick controlling a BIG METAL DINO. He could move his neck and head and open his meta jaw. I am sure he dreamt about riding it or making it walk. I cannot imagine how it could have been for a 9 year old but he looked pretty thrilled. I wanted to try myself to be honest but felt too embarrassed to occupy this favourite toy.
What I didn’t hold myself back from was the Laser Ray Obstacle walk. If you have seen Catherine Zeta-Jones in the movie Entrapment - where she has to learn how to tip-toe in between the laser light alarm… that is what they have here. You walk into the semi dark forest with green laser light and you have to avoid them. If you manage to disturb it - you will get a Dino Roar. I am telling you - pretty scary for Kids. My Nikki came back to get me and we did it together. (I did it myself on my own and got just 1 single roar!) You don’t pay extra for this and you can go as many times as you want….and when you do it 20 times… you can become a Pink Panther.. :-D
I am thinking very hard about what is it I missed to mention. GOT IT! 4D cinema about a little Dino-Longneck cub. All in Czech sorry, but its just 10 minutes long so you might survive it and the Kids will like it anyway. You might like to sit in the back seats. You will get a better experience.
When we walked out I needed some time off so I put The kids into the Indoor Playground right next to the Dino Park called Zabicka (the Froggie). It was only 35czk per hour. They do babysitting and have 2 Playstations!!!! In the 40 min my Kids spent there i gained just enough energy to steer them back to the car and drive them to the Hotel Peklo - 15 km away from Liberec - where we were enjoying our winter skiing holiday. But…. that is another story.
