XXXL Lutz Furniture Store Indoor Playground and Restaurant, Prague 5
I decided to tip you on this Indoor Playground although it’s in a furniture store. We’ve been going there just to eat and visit the free playground. In the past 3 months we’ve been guests at 2 birthday parties hosted in a Birthday Room right next to the Playground! I have to say it wouldn’t be my first choice for a Birthday venue but the kids had fun. I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by the menu in the restaurant and I know that many people go there just to eat.
I remember IKEA (that’s just down the road from XXXL Lutz) got paranoid when Austrian superstore XXXL Lutz opened, mainly because of their restaurant. I have to admit - they were right and I can imagine they have taken a good deal of business away from IKEA. I rememeber IKEA made a special deal on Fried Coated Cheese with potatoes in those early days for just 29CZK. I am not sure if IKEA was happy with the result when a majority of poor and nearly homeless people suddenly appeared in the queue for the “special” offer meal. I was in IKEA on one of those days and it wasn’t pretty.
I like XXL Lutz, they have good offers on furniture that is mid range in price and reasonable quality. Not a cheap stuff like you get in Sconto (for example) and they have different stuff from KIKA. If I am looking for furniture I usually start here. Apart from furniture they have a good deal of household goods such as curtains, interior decorations and also office furniture.
Now back to the restaurant with the Indoor Playground. The restaurant isn’t a poor cousin of the store. No, it’s self-service and as I have mentioned I would go there only for the food with kids. The meals are of a good quality, prices are great, service good and the deserts you will want to take home especially the XXXL Lutz Cake. Here you can get a very good birthday cake as well. You just walk in and buy it.
The Indoor playground has a climbing frame, playroom and video room. It isn’t the babysitting kind of set up - here you are responsible for your kid but I have to admit I left my older boys here very comfortably and went to look for furniture. They played nicely and the staff at the restaurant were always watching out for them.
My boys were thrilled with the interactive touch screens featuring puzzles and drawing. Just at this spot they spent half of their time. From what I know they do some activities with kids here as well but I never made it to such a playgroup. The Indoor playground has a soft play area for babies. You can happily munch on your lunch and leave your rag rat to comfortably play within eyesight of your table. I thought that was very practical. Mothers on maternity leave would be very happy with the prices of the meals + the free entry to the Indoor Playground. Where in Prague do you have Indoor Playgrounds for free? Really.
If you sign in for a free membership card with XXXL Lutz - you will receive discounted coupons for merchandise as well as on meals. Usually there are 2 kid meals for free. How practical. If you manage not to buy anything and spend some extra cash on sheets or a cute little window angel - you can save some bucks :-)
The Birthday Party Room
Saying this, I dont want this to sound like a cheap place for cheapskates. Not at all. AlI want to emphasise is that you can get a good deal on meals and the kids can have fun at the same time.
